The same ‘mouth feel’* could be achieved without using any meat at all. I worked (as a vegan) in the veggieburger and veggie-hot-dog business (years ago), and what we all knew before was most evident to us at that time:

Seasoning is added to an extrusion (which can be made from vegan-friendly plant-derived materials), then the items are packaged ‘for the market’ (designed, really, for saleability).
